If one checks the trends lines of the daily tracking polls in the battleground states, they are all diverging. Pennsylvania is done. Obama/Biden have 13 points and the McCain people have trimmed back on ad spending. The Obama lead in Florida is 4 points and slowly growing. Obama can easily win WITHOUT Florida and Ohio but McCain is having to burn resources there to stay competitive overall. Several electoral vote sites have the solid locked in Obama states at, or very close to, 270. McCain has a much harder hill to climb at this point than John Kerry did in 2004 and he is running short of money. And remember that Gallup always uses a much more conservative methodology than several of the other polls. I expect that they still call landlines only.

I'd rather listen to Olbermann...which we did. SNL Thursday Update and Colbert Report were hoots.
S. I caught the SNL intro on Hulu but haven't had time for Colbert. When/where can I catch Olbermann? It sounds like he might be a good balance to the conservatism I usually get during the day.

Last night on Leno the Palin look alike person was asked by Jay if she trusted the polls. She replied "Oh yeah, they're a good buncha people - sure - I'm tolerant of them Polish people - you betcha"
What you call the media's attempt to discredit Joe the Plumber is simply finding out more about him. He totally discredited himself. McCain should never have made him a focal point. If he wanted to talk hypothetical he should have just come up with a hypothetical (not real life) example.

"When/where can I catch Olbermann?"
He is on MSNBC at 7P and 11P PST so you will have to adjust for your time zone.
He kicks butt!

Joe the Plumber has now appeared in interviews where he admits that, under Obama's tax plan, he (Joe) would actually receive a tax cut.

First of all "Joe the Plumber" is really just a symbol for middle class America workers and small business people who are trying to grow their businesses or strive for higher income and achievement. So what if he isn't a plumber or has never even plunged a stuck toilet. Uncle Sam is a symbol for America and patriotism and he hasn't even drawn a breath, let alone be anyone's uncle. Second of all being licensed or in a union doesn't mean he isn't a plumber. My husband has been doing plumbing jobs for 20 years and has had his own business for 15 - now retired. He did the entire plumbing system for our 4000 square house (aka book warehouse) and the inspectors told him he does a better job than most contractors. Why doesn't someone just tell "Joe the Plumber" to turn around and bend over - see where his jeans go and you'll know if he is for real!!!!! :)

He's not just a symbol tho, that's the problem. He was called out (20 times) BY NAME after being on camera talking with Obama that day. If McCain just wanted to throw a generic symbol out there he could have kept saying that stupid "Joe Six Pack" that Palin says all the time. Maybe Joe Six Pack wants to get off the couch and buy a brewery. Yeah, that's it. And the brewery would earn $251,000 per year, thus raising his taxes and forcing him to go cry in his beer. Something like that is a symbol. Calling out a person by name that is on camera is pointing to a specific person. It backfired badly.

If the inceremental tax rate is allowed to revert, the increased amount of tax in your example is only $30
Yeah, that's it. And the brewery would earn $251,000 per year, thus raising his taxes and forcing him to go cry in his beer.

It's not my example, earl. Try to keep up. (I can see your mom's got dinner on the table but stick around a minute so I can clear this up for you) I'm paraphrasing McCain and his "poor Joe the Plumber" song and dance. If he had wanted to use a generic 'symbol', he shouldn't have used a real person who Obama met that afternoon.

http://www.moneychimp.com/features/tax_brackets.htm
And I am NOT CRITICIZING YOU, Just letting people see that the relative difference is small
The Total tax on a taxable income of $251,000 is $61,559 for married filing jointly Another $30 is almost not noticeable
