another case of listing disappearance: does this make sense?
Posted: Apr 19, 2007 9:08 AM

just tried to close some listings that i've sold thru another venue.  couldn't find the second one on the list.  and this is 4th one i haven't been able to find in about last 5 days.  neither on closed listing, nor on open listing.  not on offerings list of the product page.  called SS, and was told to provide listing confirmation info, which i have no access right now.

my question is, is it technically possible for amazon / ss to use confirmation email info and find any information about a product that doesn't exist on either on my open list or on my closed list?

if so, that would mean that there is a black hole where amazon store away ramdom listings, by mistake or due to glitch, until the seller stumbles upon the discrepency in listings.

if not possible, i am not going to waste time on digging up the old confirmation email info to hand it over to ss.

has this happened to anyone?

excuse me if this has already been answered.

j.  who is technically challenged...

Amazon does lose things on occassion.

If you are a ProMerchant, you can maintain your own database and do s purge&replace upload whenever you think your listings on Amazon no-longer match what you really have.

tom, thanks for your comment.

can they recover what they have lost if they are given the listing information in cluded in the confirmation email?  that's what's puzzling me.  the ss rep asked for the info after she concluded that the listing wasn't either of the open or closed listings.  i asked only if the rep knew that the listing could be somewhere in the system where she could retrieve with listing info.  she wasn't sure about that.  she said she wasn't aware of any such retrieval experience but she wasn't quite sure about that either.  i said, what would be the point of digging and providing the info she asked for?  i would be left to be wondering just the same.  am i making sense to you?  i'm just dreading to find more lost listings and hopelessly hoping ss knows what happened to them and fix it all together.

oh well.

Dear j

I'm finding the same thing happening to me --the items  are sitting in my inventory and were listed ---then I may read something in the paper and decide to look it up in the book, or look at the video again & it is NOT on my closed or open list to check the price I had on it ...........so I have had to re-list it and now I'm wondering how many there are like that.  I just found 2 more like that. I wonder if this happened on the change over when Amazon did the changeover on collectibles..........just a guess tho.

Yes, i believe some listings do 'disappear'. I have noticed it for longer than just since "z" shops went away and Collectibles was re-vamped. I think the suggestion for downloading your inventory, checking it and then uploading is the only solution I can see. I'm not sure why listings disappear but have been aggravated by it for some time. Good Luck

We have just listed a book which is not showing up in either "open" or "closed" listings.
But the book is available to buy on Amazon.
I wonder what will happen when someone tries to buy it.
Anyone got an idea?

Your items are still listed for buyers even though you can't see them through your seller account.  I guess it just becomes a problem to close a listing you can't see. :/

Fezziwig -- I have the exact same issue.  At least one of my books is listed for sale among the other offerers for that title, but the book does not show up in my open listings.

I am mystified as to how that could happen & what to do about it.  Do I e-mail amazon and have them close out that offer so I can re-list it?

I would like every book I'm offering to show up in my open listings.  It will turn into a mess if that kind of thing starts happening with any regularity.
