File Upload & Size Limits

Overall we've been satisfied with the Amazon Webstore platform, this thread is mainly about technical issues and limitations.

As the person charged with handling inventory, images and all other aspects of the web transition I found the File Library tool to be one of the most cumbersome aspects of the platform. I had been accustomed to using the bulk inventory upload Excel files when selling on Amazon in the past, so I was expecting tools and features to match the power of that system, and I was unfortunately disappointed.

1) No bulk upload - I had to waste a bunch of time individually uploading single jpgs the other day when I could have done it with a single zip file or an FTP operation on any other system

2) No folders - everything is dumped into a single root directory of "/images" no matter what type of content it is, no options for customization or even other standard file extension folders

3) 1MB file limit - I can understand this for images, but this is beginning to interfere with my PDF documents, which are generally between 1 and 2MB. I can't take the time to split these out into individual chunks that fit under the ~1MB limit, that would be ridiculous and the benefit to my customers would be negated by having to click through 10 pdfs.

If you could make these changes and upgrade the "file library" view to have filtered options and a directory browsing structure, that would go a long way towards making this side of the platform not feel so absolutely second-rate.

You can do bulk image upload, it just requires a little extra work. You upload the images to the web and then reference the url in the text file when adding new items: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/help/help-popup.html?ie=UTF8&itemID=1641

"You upload the images to the web and then reference the url in the text file when adding new item"

Which presents an interesting conflict after you've switched your DNS to point at the Amazon servers, negating all the links you may have had on your old host. All of my products that already had images scraped by Amazon ported fine, but adding new items required me to go through their single file upload utility individually, and then republish the website on top of that before the links would be picked up by the data submission feed. If you are suggesting that I use a free third party image hosting utility as an interim I would find that to be rather absurd.

Why not? Upload the images to Photobucket, enter the image url for the product in the appropriate field in the text file, and then upload the file to Amazon. As long as the image file names have a reference to the SKU or UPC it shouldn't be very difficult. If you have a problem leaving the images on Photobucket, just delete them a couple of hours later...

"Why not?"

Because we pay Amazon $60 for their WebStore hosting solution and they should be able to accommodate something as simple as this? Every free crappy web/blog host I've seen since GeoCities has a better "File Library" organization & upload utility than this. Seeing as how your FAQ style answer didn't even address the most minor issue, I find your participation in this thread questionable at best. If they don't reply next I'll start a support ticket and forget about this nonsense.

Sorry for providing you with a solution. My answer may not fix the functionality of Webstore, but it is actually a better solution. Did you even read the help link I posted? As far as dismissing the PB suggestion...why? Because you pay $60 and you want to use Webstore for everything related to your store? Even if there is a better way that is also free? That is just being stubborn.

Don't know what to tell you about the PDF limit. The only thing I can say is that Webstore is just an extension of Amazon.com, with its pros and cons. Have fun with support.
