Late announcement of problems; premature announcement of resolution.
Posted: Aug 30, 2006 3:19 AM

Amazon.com's use of the Seller Announcement board leaves a lot to be desired.  The current widespread series of glitches underscores Amazon's inadequate communication with 3rd party sellers.

1.  When technical problems arise, the problems are not communicated to us or to Seller Support in a timely manner.

2.  Amazon's use of the Seller Announcement board during glitches seems to be limited to a very late announcement of an "unplanned event" and a premature announcement that the event has been resolved.

3.  Amazon has announced that the current event has been resolved, but I still cannot get to my Seller Account page, I still cannot leave feedback, only part of yesterday's sales have produced SSNs, and there are still listing problems.

You are right - it's still a mess - yet we are supposed to believe all is well - I'm sure we'll see our '0's rise again today and it will be another frustrating day.

Yes, they seem to wait until the complaint level reaches critical mass before they post anything about it. And it's almost never fixed when they say it is.

actually the latest announcement is also an error. the title of the announcement is 'resolved' but if you open it and read it the announcement is actually detailing a new unplanned event.

Ya know...sh*t happens. Cyber-disasters happen. There are, I'm certain, ways to reduce the occurrences, to lessen the blow by the expenditure of large sums of money. But let's face it--that's not gonna happen.

What can happen though, is truthful and readily available information. I place this squarely at Amazon's doorstep, and I hope someone with some influence is reading this thread.

From the ridiculous Announcement Board, with its ridiculous euphemisms, to the ridiculous Seller Support staff, with its ridculous stone wall, they seem to think that by not reporting the situation as it is, we will not know it's happening.

It's maddening to be a mushroom; to be kept in the dark and fed bullsh*t. And it's unnecessary...and it's stupid.

Remember this from your SSN's?

"You have agreed to ship no later than two business days after the
buyer's purchase on 29-Aug-2006."

This particular one comes from a sale that has been laying there for 2 days now.  The buyer expects it to be shipped already even if Amazon doesn't!  Most of us have been pretty forgiving of Amazon's problem, but I wonder how forgiving Amazon is going to be when we start getting bad feedback as a result of their problem?

That looks like they went in and edited the thread title after they posted the reply about the partial resolution.

Okay, I opened a new window, got into the seller area find, no grayed out areas, more '0's - maybe, they fixed the cogs in the wheels?  Amazon needs to leave the playing cards out of the wheels, cool sound but it messes things up!

I wonder if they have ever used their product:

Terrific as a glaze and dipping sauce for filet mignon and prime rib.
Also wonderful on poultry and fish. A tantalizing spread for fresh deli
sandwiches.

I suppose Amazon is worried that stock prices might drop if Amazon communicated better about its technical problems.

In a conflict between ethics and stock value.......
