zShops Are Dead?
Posted: Sep 14, 2006 9:29 AM

Am I crazy or did the recent Amazon announcement just say that they are doing away with all zShops and zShop listings?

I guess that means no more resending returned packages for me.

Important announcement regarding zShops
Posted: Sep 14, 2006 11:59 AM

Dear Amazon.com zShops sellers,

Over the years, Amazon.com has worked to expand selection by enabling sellers to list their inventory alongside Amazon’s within the product detail page. This has resulted in unparalleled selection for customers and a great way for sellers to reach tens of millions of customers.

Since launching Amazon Marketplace, we’ve learned that customers prefer to shop for items via the product detail page. Accordingly, we ask that merchants with zShops listings migrate to sell in Amazon Marketplace. Sellers should continue selling using Amazon Marketplace listings to list their items on the most valuable real estate for selling on the web: Amazon product detail pages.

What does this mean to you?

For your continued selling success, we encourage you to keep selling on Amazon using Marketplace listings. Starting Tuesday, October 24, 2006, we will be replacing all current zShops Storefronts with a new Storefront exclusively featuring your Marketplace listings. On that date, customers will no longer be able to find your zShops listings and your Marketplace listings will appear in your new Storefront. Your zShops listings will still be visible from your Seller Account page for about one week from that date after which they will be removed.

Before Tuesday, October 24 2006, we encourage you to re-list your zShops listings as Marketplace listings to benefit from the new Storefront. The following tools make it easy for you to continue selling on Marketplace--you can create product detail pages and list your items in bulk or one item at a time without using zShops listings:

• You can create book detail pages (including pre-ISBN) or list books in bulk in Marketplace with the latest release of the Book Loader tool.

• You can create product detail pages for all other products, one at a time, using the Create a Product Detail Page tool.

Please note: Your existing zShops listings and zShops Storefront will continue to be available on Amazon.com until October 24, 2006 when your current zShops Storefront URL will be automatically redirected to your new Storefront.

How can I learn more?

• If you are a current zShops seller, learn more about what you need to do.

• Find out more about your new Storefront.

Learn more about selling on Amazon.com Marketplace.

For any feedback related to the new Storefront featuring Marketplace listings, please contact us at zshops-changes-feedback@amazon.com

Thank you for selling at Amazon.com!

I predicted that over 10 months ago and everyone said it would never happen.  Welcome to never never land.

As usual, this announcement really doesn't tell us anything.

What is most important to me is: Is Amazon going to promote them or bury them?

or

maybe they will use their new technique? when the seller's zShop is clicked on, the Amazon home page shows up. Great marketing tool. I wish I could figure out how to have my website show up every time a customer clicks on the Amazon home page.

Well, I will keep my fingers crossed that this change will be good?

Interesting. Though I guess it wasn't really that hard to see it coming. Amazon has been downplaying the Zshops and promoting the Marketplace for a long time now.

No, what it says is that Amazon is switching platforms.  Click on any seller in any category other than books with a seller central account (logo by their name, NOT featured merchant) and you'll see what your store is going to look like.

about time.

yea CD you were right!

I never used mine. never cared for it. not attached to it in any way.

now, they say "you don't have to do anything...." then in another place they say "we encourage you to cancel and relist..." so what do they want?

and "will be replaced by a new storefront.." so, there will be something there. it dosn't concern me, as I'm not a fan anyway. but curious about any change.

as far as book sales go this won't have much of an impact for me. I have only had one zshop sale in almost 3 years. the thing I will miss will be the little supplement things for 2 or 3 dollars to upgrade postage for some reason. or some unusual situation that calls for a special listing for an individual.

If you have zshop listings currently that appear in the marketplace, you don't have to do anything.

If you have items currently in your zshop that do not have listings in the marketplace (items where no ASIN or create a page ability to list)...those will need to be created in order to sell those items.

Now we know why the site is all messed up. All the technical upgrading for this is probably slowing everything down.

I will wait and see. It's so hard to trust. I hope it works.

OK, well, I know so little about Z's that that dosn't even make sence to me. I just list in Marketplace.

I'm trying to find a seller that already shows this change. Can anyone post a listing so we can see an example?
