No. I have not been here longer than you have and everything you said seems congruous with what I've heard.

Nostalgia appears to be a factor here and the other main factor seems to be the ability to provide listings for shipping upgrade fees and fees for resending a book that has been returned.

It really is time to revive Zshops and make them into stores with a link on the main page . Stores seem to be the wave of the future as Ebay is finding out to it's dismay. Zshops is supposed to be one of the things we get for pro merchant fees but thanks for nothing.

I would also like to see this since I too like the payment methods and the overall structure of seller treatment. However, I really don't think it will happen. Why? Perhaps Amazon does not feel its profit margin is large enough to attempt the reconstruction of Z shops or they feel that the Marketplace is a large enough flagship. You might attempt to write to suggestions@amazon and attempt to validate your theory of stores being the way to go. I personally think you have a good argument.

There WILL be a "store" replacing Zshops for the PM sellers. It will ONLY contain marketplace items. We don't know what it is going to look like yet (Amazon still hasn't told us) nor what it's features will be, but it WILL be some kind of a store...

Combined shipping (and other ways to accept buyer payments for "extras") would be a godsend from Amazon - and perhaps keep the legitimate sellers from even thinking about "circumventing Amazon Payments". I hope Amazon wakes up to this fact instead of creating more work for Alliance (and additional grief for PM sellers that want to satisfy the customer AND 'do the right thing' by Amazon)!

Just a guess, but as I posted on the original thread about the demise of zShops, they're launching the new "aStore" format in Nov.(it's in beta now) and for the sake of streamlining and integrating formats, I would think the new stores will look a lot like that. No word yet on the big question-will sellers be able to create non Mplace items. Although I haven't worked on it yet, here's a link to mine:

So how does one get to the other items besides your featured items?  Obviously you are selling more than 9 items!

I believe it (Zshop replacement) will be a lot more like "Seller Central stores".

The aStores appear a way for anybody who wants a web site with no work (not referring to you, AVI) and sell everything Amazon sells by being an Associate and collecting (tiny) referral fees for basically doing nothing...

There is a whole plethora of these Astores springing up like weeds (once again, not directed to you, AVI - your'e just testing the waters, I believe) that all look the same and sell the same things (i.e. EVERYYHING that Amazon sells - lol).

I'm reposting here an earlier post I made (my first on these new boards - so that surely witnesses to how important I feel this little selling detail of upgrades/services is!). I posted this originally on the 'zShops are dead?' thread, but the discussion on that thread took a different direction. This seems to be a good place to (re)post this. (For anyone interested, the other zShops thread can be found here):

Am posting below the email that I have just sent to Amazon (immediately after reading the Seller Announcement, but without having read this thread). If any others are concerned about the 'minor detail' of upgrades (not minor to me BTW), I hope they'll whip off an email too. If anyone has a suggestion on a workaround (other than Paypal) for upgrades - please post! (I don't frequent the boards at this time, but I suppose I can get posts to this thread emailed directly, yes?)

Hello,

I have read your announcement regarding the upcoming changes to zShops. I have one
concern which I would like to bring to your attention in hopes you can post a solution for
this issue BEFORE October 24th.

I currently have a handlful of zShop listings for shipping upgrades that I
use for customers who request such things as Express Delivery, a priority
upgrade (post-purchase), sometimes with gift wrap, and -- perhaps used
most often -- an airmail upgrade for international buyers (where the
weight or size of the item prohibits the use of Global Priority Mail.)

What avenue will be open to me on Amazon after the upcoming change to
provide these upgrades to Marketplace buyers? I sincerely hope you will
address this issue -- particularly as the holiday buying season is the
time when these upgrades are requested most often.

Thank you,
....etc. etc........

-------------------------

Thanks, all!

=====================================

I do know (from board posts going back awhile) that some sellers have been using Paypal for costs such as these (upgrades and/or extra services). Perhaps they weren'[t Pro Merchants and didn't have a zShop, but otherwise I'm not sure why any seller would take an Amazon buyer off-site for payments of any kind. I'm not planning to use Paypal when zShops close -- I simply won't be able to offer my Amazon buyers these additional services. (And I won't be able to offer internationally those items that I formerly could upgrade to airmail at the buyer's option for an additional cost.)

Since I'm reposting this, let me just repeat what I said (with strong urging!) that I hope other sellers concerned about this will contact Amazon immediately and request a solution be found for this type of customer service! Maybe Steve's public blogging on this issue will help too! One can only hope.

Very well stated, TSL.

You are right, this (shipping upgrades, etc) is a much bigger deal/negative consequence (of dropping Z-shops) than Amazon appears to realize...

I will be e-mailing tonight after I get caught up on shipping...

I believe it (Zshop replacement) will be a lot more like "Seller Central stores".

I think the aStores and seller central stores share the same platform, and mimic the MP catalog page format-which is very different from zShops. It would seem logical and much more cost efficient to offer different levels of the same store format with functionality varying depending on the cost. They'll also get the benefit of a more consistent look. At least that's what I take from this in the original announcement (it would be nice if they could be a little more forthcoming now so we can prepare!):

New shopping experience with detail page and offer listing page--The new Storefront provides buyers with a shopping experience similar to the one on Amazon.comcomplete with product detail pages and an offer listing page that displays all of your different listings for different conditions for the same product.

The aStores appear a way for anybody who wants a web site with no work (not referring to you, AVI) and sell everything Amazon sells by being an Associate and collecting (tiny) referral fees for basically doing nothing...

Hey now, I worked very hard on mine!!! Actually I was  looking for an easy way to incorporate Amazon listings into my web site. I wasn't too happy about the  items from other sellers appearing on my page, so I put it on hold after the first page.

Demi- The concept of the new Z shops will mean absolutely nothing unless there is a change in the format for what buyers see when they access the Amazon site. The Zshop listings as they stood were hidden and not easily made a choice for purchasing items for most buyers. I would also like to know the ground rules on product sales and any cost changes before I become too excited about these changes. I am currently listing on Ebay items I cannot list on Amazon. In my case these include International  and Import cds which I can cannot create pages for because of the 12 digit restriction and more recently Promo Copies of LPs which are not permitted on Amazon although these products are no longer marketed and in many cases rare.

Good going! It may not help but it certainly can't hurt!

I hope you'll post your email to Amazon here. Maybe it will help inspire others to write! :)

Yanno,

It's a real shame that Amazon doesn't pay much attention to these boards (unless someone has gone postal  ). I sure wish they would. It would save me a lot of cutting and pasting and time. They could gain so much if they would recognize the fact that there IS intelligent life in these threads.

My eMail to Amazon should be short and simple:

Hey Amazon, Read this thread! Here's what's Happening in the Real World! Wake up before it's too late (please...).
