I read the article, but missed the part where PayPal is coming to Amazon.

Also, this paragraph seems suspect:

"But even as most Amazon third-party sales have migrated to Marketplace, many collectible book dealers, who are among Amazon's most experienced and highest-volume merchants, have continued relying on zShops for three main purposes ..."

Where is his proof for this claim, that collectible book dealers are some of the "highest-volume merchants" on Amazon?
Wouldn't the highest-volume merchants be those low-balling penny-book sellers who are constantly re-pricing their inventory to try and maintain the lowest prices?

It doesn't say Paypal is coming to Amazon... it says that sellers will start using paypal to handle non-standard payment options that they currently handle by setting up a zshop listing.

I don't see Paypal coming to Amazon, what I read and understood was that merchants will now have to ask buyers for the extra shipping allowance for overnight shipping, etc. through Paypal.  How I understood it was that merchants are on their own for this because Amazon is too inflexible in it's shipping amounts and don't allow for extra for extra services or combined shipping.

Well it's another payment option for us I guess.

It's not offered now ..... but soon. I already have 2 accounts with Paypal.

Looks like Ebay is sticking it's hand in everywhere.

I would think it would drive more collectible books to ABE. I know my sales have picked up a lot on international orders and multiple title orders. Amazon really needs to get on the ball about International Shipping cost verses speed. Then  discounts for multiple title orders.

**Well it's another payment option for us I guess.**

Not really. We are committed (by the PA) to use of Amazon Payments for all sales on Amazon. That change was made a while back (a year ago or so?)

Paypal use would not be something Amaazon would be happy about, I am sure. And if this news spreads across the internet, perhaps Amazon will make that clear to us all -- either by setting up an alternative way for us to handle upgrades, or simply by clarifying their rule on the nonacceptance of any payment method other than Amazon Payments for MP customers.

I encourage you to change your thread title -- it is misleading, Mydogsuki!

Amazon doesn't want to give 3P's the chance to discount multiple titles - thats what Prime and FBA will be for - I can't say never will their be a shipping discount, because no one knows what might happen, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I've often wondered why Amazon will not allow payments to be made with Paypal. Surely someone that does the kind of volume Amazon does can cut a deal with paypal to get the rates lowered.

PayPal is owned by eBay, Amazon's biggest competitor.

Does anyone remember the BANNER issue?

That came about because (some) sellers were circumventing Amazon Payments.

Currently, Anybody that accepts any payment other than Amazon Payments for an Amazon purchase (or any part of an Amazon purchase) is subject to the wrath of Alliance. (i.e. DON'T DO IT!)

I have a lot of respect for Steve Weber - I'm hoping he simply mis-spoke about this issue and will clarify what he really meant. (I think I know what he meant but that is not what he said)

I can't imagine Amazon allowing the use of an eBay owned payment system, but stranger things have happened.

Yet another fee for us to absorb...Amazon's monthly fee, Amazon's commission on every sale, Amazon's shipping holdback and then, if the customer pays with Paypal 30 cents per transaction + 2.9% for domestic sales and even more for international sales.

I'm presuming Amazon would negotiate it down to what they are paying the credit card companies so it wouldn't really cost them any more. Amazon would pay the fee like they do the CC fees now. To refuse to use something that could increase business just because you don't like the company that owns it is foolish.
