Someone is already covering the books but there are a lot of movies that can have an impact on the way a child thinks. I will start out with: Fail Safe 12 Angry Men Birth of a Nation

I love Weekend at Bernies. Not thought required!! And Porky's was popular when I was really young, I thought it was such a dirty movie, cause I caught glimpses of it while my brother (older) was watching it. Sorry, now for the serious answers......... Melis

Animal House? Yes. Although I would add that this is all in the spirit of fun and that no one can possibly suggest movies or books for young adults heading off to college. They've either gotten it, parentally, or not, by now. Waving bye to my daughter who is now in college in Paris, and doing the Brown, Tufts, Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, Bates run in a month for my youngest. Frances

OK, so maybe I'm reading this wrong. I was under the impression that with the book one it was for books that should have been read by the time they are in college, but this makes it seem that you are wanting movies in preparation for college. Those are two entirely different things--as pointed out by many posters here! Seriously, I feel every single high school student should see "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." The world would be a better place if everyone did!

I'm not looking for required reading or watching. I'm looking for a list of movies that will make a teen think. Something that will stir them in some way and remove the zombie gaze produced by M-TV

Then I definitely reiterate my prior recommendation. If there was only one movie I could recommend for a teen to think (and not just party), it would be the one I listed. Unfortunately, I seem to be alone in my views. Hmmm, "Dumb and Dumber" might prepare a kid for his professors!
