Clue me in, where are the Auctions going?
Posted: Apr 1, 2007 8:14 AM

Hello

The link on the main Amazon page to the auctions seems to

have evaporated.

I have been offline for awhile, did I miss the demise?

Thanking all of you in advance.

No one uses them unless they wish to fall for a Nigerian scam so I guess Amazon decided it's not woth keeping the link.

If you are talking about the link to Amazon auctions that used to be somewhat visible on the '36 categories' page, it is still there on the new '40 categories' page.  You just have to look a little harder.  It is hidden 3 lines from the bottom of the 'popout' in the 'Buy With Amazon' line.  Admittedly, a BIZARRE place to put it!

Hello LadyBTUa

As I looked around I found that Amazon promotes the Auctions

by linking on the "Sell At Amazon...................." and also

become "A Pro Merchant....................".

As for a Nigerian scam.............I think you have been incorrectly

informed.

Sorry Ladybtu,

I am not right. The link is just too hard to find.

Well, where I am going with this is how do I unload my

small book collection if Amazon has no ISBNs for them?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

zumbeads, try searching on Amazon for your books by title or author. One of the perks of being a pro merchant is the ability to create a listing page when there's no ISBN number. Lots of older books have been entered into the database.

No she hasn't been misinformed. Nigerian scammers haunt the amazon auction boards, posing as "buyers". (Amazon doesn't allow shipments to Nigeria but too many newbies don't know it). They will send well-faked "Sold Ship Now" notices about send it first, then you get paid, etc. They prey on new Auction sellers. At least one newbie in the last couple weeks lost a playstation falling for this scam (they tend to target camera and electronics sellers most). I can't remember the last time ANYONE got a legitimate sale on Amazon Auctions--and I've been here 4 years.

Amazon should seriously just put a bullet in auctions and kill them altogether.

Without the Auctions link on the Amazon HOME page, traffic to them is virtually nill.

Selling on the marketplace is great. Selling on Amazon Auctions--well, sell at your own risk.

Auctions are dead. I would not waste my time there. Too many scammers and non-paying buyers.

Amazon is not the place for auctions. The other site E--something or other, I can't recall the name now, is the place to do it.

"I can't remember the last time ANYONE got a legitimate sale on Amazon Auctions--and I've been here 4 years."

2 years ago I was making sales on Amazon Auctions all the time, but I did it through my website.  I would put the item on the website and then direct interested parties to the A-Auction where they could buy it.  I prefered to pay the Amazon fees than to pay the PayPal fees.  I havn't used it in a long time because I now find that, although I don't like PayPal, it's just easier to get the collection done there.  However, my point.....I have made many sales at Amazon Auctions with the understanding that Amazon will supply NO customers there and I have to supply the customer.

Well, I have been here 8 years (as of April 5) and I still sell a few books every year on Amazon auctions.  In 2006 I sold 8 books on auctions and payment was not the slightest problem.  In 2005 I sold 2 books.  In 2004 I sold 6 books, etc, etc.  Of course, in 1999/2000 I sold 50 to sixty books a week on Amazon auctions.

I know it would probably work just as well now as it used to.  I never listed books on it (that I remember).  It was just "stuff" that wouldn't list on the reg. book site.  You're right, payment was never a problem.  To tell the truth, I don't remember exactly why I got side-tracked from using it, but I havn't listed anything there in a long time.....maybe 2 years.  I might get around to putting something on just to see if it's really still there.
