ANOTHER "new fb page" test
Posted: Apr 8, 2008 3:45 PM

Here we go again! This is what screwed everything up on AZ last Sptember:

We are testing a new "Leave seller feedback" page
Posted: Apr 8, 2008 1:42 PM

On April 8th we will resume testing a new "Leave seller feedback" page. The test will be set up so that only half of our users will see the new page. Once the test is complete, if we decide to proceed with using the new page, all users will then see it.

We are revising the page to meet our business needs as we add new features, and to add improvements based on the many comments we have received from sellers.

Here are some of the specific changes:

* Buyers can get to the feedback page with only one click after logging in.

* All feedback-eligible orders are visible on one page. Buyers can leave feedback on as many orders as they want without having to leave the page.

* The message "If your order hasn't arrived yet, please note that it's still before the delivery estimate" is much more prominent.

* The comments box is now below the optional questions so buyers will be more likely to notice the questions before they leave a comment. In previous tests of the new page we auto-filled the comments section based on the rating number and the answers to the three optional questions. For this test we have removed the auto-fill feature.

I hate to whine, but it's interesting that they choose to notify us *AFTER* they started.

Here is the Seller Central version:

We are testing a new "Leave seller feedback" pageApr 8, 2008

On April 8th we will resume testing a new "Leave seller feedback" page. The test will be set up so that only half of our users will see the new version of the feedback page. Once the test is complete, if we decide to proceed with using the new page, all users will then see it.

We are revising the page to meet our business needs as we add new features, and to add improvements based on the many comments we have received from merchants.

Here are some of the specific changes:

  • We will begin collecting buyer feedback on orders that are cancelled before shipment is confirmed. We have always collected feedback on refunded orders. With the launch of Charge When Ship, we did not have the ability to collect feedback on orders cancelled before shipment confirmation. This change corrects that, bringing parity between orders cancelled before shipment confirmation and orders refunded after shipment confirmation. Buyers will still not be able to leave feedback on orders we cancel, for example, when the credit card is invalid.
  • Expected delivery dates are displayed more prominently. The message "If your order hasn't arrived yet, please note that it's still before the delivery estimate" is highlighted when appropriate.
  • The comments box is now below the optional questions so buyers will be more likely to notice the questions before they leave a comment.
  • Buyers can get to the feedback page with only one click after logging in.
  • All feedback-eligible orders are visible on one page. Buyers can leave feedback on as many orders as they want without having to leave the page.

So now everyone can stop whining  about Seller Central sellers who get off the feedback hook when they cancel an order.  Also if you read the italicized and underlined part you'll see it was a systems issue as I had guessed .

We are revising the page to meet our business needs as we add new features, and to add improvements based on the many comments we have received from sellers.

They didn't pick any of MY suggestions, which included:

making a "3" be truly neutral,
making it so it doesn't take ao many positives (199) to counteract the effect of s single non-positive,
asking buyers not to rate us on:
    delays in the postal system,
or the price they paid for the item,
or sending exactly what they ordered (when it wasn't what they wanted),
being especially careful to rate the correct seller,
and contacting the seller before leaving any 1, 2, or 3 feedback.

The more prominent delivery message is a plus. What I would like to see is, when a 3, 2, or 1 is left, before it is finalized a window should pop up asking, If there was a problem did you try to contact the seller first to remedy it. It could then say something like, If not, please click No and do so now, otherwise click yes.

This might be just enough to make some of the more hasty ones stop and think a bit, thus avoiding unfair negatives.

Even better as I've suggested before would be to have a 1,2 or 3 generate an automatic email to the seller with the buyer's complaint and an alert to the buyer that the email was sent and their fb will be posted in 1 week, unless the seller resolves their issue and they come back to cancel it. Virtually cost free, easy to implement and much more geared to proactively resolving the problem than the current fb farce.

Now that is one dang brilliant idea. I don't think I'd seen you post that before. It doesn't make the buyer jump through extra hoops if he chooses not to, but it gives the seller a fair chance to address any issues (or maybe point out to the buyer that he didn't write the book).

And yes, it seems that could be very simply automated.

There was a thread a while back with the usual suggestions that Amazon should set up a feedback review board (comprised of sellers) to protect sellers from whacky fb. I suggested the auto email idea as an alternative because:

-it would improve communication between buyers/sellers on problem transactions.

-could be a simple tool to enhance customer satisfaction and problem resolution

-low price tag.

I don't think Amazon will change anything unless we show them what's in it for them.
