Fraud Alert

It has come to my attention that a widespread fraud is being perpetrated by a company based at this address:
[removed]
The most common name of the buyer is [removed], with the actual name the book is sent to changing from order to order.
It appears that this activity is systematic, so be advised that sending books to the address above may be risky. I have had orders cancelled twice now after sending the product. They also order books and then tell you they never got them or that you sent the wrong one.
A quick google search of this address and name will give you an idea of how they operate. So, seller beware.

There are several threads here about them. There was even one more such thread, but Amazon deleted it. Tom

I had a similar incident occur with the same address. They stated in the email: Please offer a full refund... the textbook arrived damaged... if you don't refund us we will complete an A-Z claim. We can not ship the book back to you because of a large volume of sales.. Be careful!!!

Shipping address:<[removed] Buyer name: [removed] Buyer email: [removed] Google the address you will find out that there is no industrial park road in Athens. I don't really understand how the mailing works here. Sent the guy an email to confirm the address, no reply.

First time I check out the boards, and I see this. So happy I checked here.
I just saw that I sold a book to this person as well. Any advice on what I should do? I do not want send a book only to be scammed!
Can I cancel the order in some way? I don't want my account all messed up because of this.

spootniek--- My experience suggests that Amazon will tell you that they consider your order a valid one and that it still needs to be shipped. Further, that Amazon will express their understanding of your (or another seller's) concerns but that at present they are unable to provide any information about the buyer account in question. Some suggestions: Ship via a trackable means with signature required upon receipt and not just a "delivery confirmation". The buzz seems to be that a simple USPS Delivery Confirmation is not adequate proof of delivery. Hmmmmmm. I'm going to ship my order to this address via UPS Ground. That's more expensive than Media Mail but UPS service buys you tracking, a delivery confirmation with signature required at destination, $100 worth of insurance included in the base shipping rate and the responsibility for filing a clain for "damage in transit" falling upon the receiver. I'm also taking digital pics of the book's front and back covers, the ancillaries (CD's and pass code) and the title page with ISBN as well as the shipping label and package. I wouldn't be surprised that there will be complaints of missing pages surfacing from this buyer before long but we need to cover what bases we can. Also, discretely mark your book so as to identify it; for example, with some unique character string on random pages right up close to the binding. This seller seems resistant to returning "damaged" books due to "heavy volume" (whatever) but when they are finally forced to abandon that line of bull such an IDing tactic might prevent them from returning junk (of which they probably have plenty laying around) to you after claiming damage or wrong edition. You'll be able to claim that you left your IDing marks in your book. Here are some questions that seem to remain unanswered: 1) What's the relationship between the buyer(s) at this address with a multitude of "ship to" names/suite numbers and Nebraska Book Company and NBC's subsidiary, Specialty Books, which is also located in Athens? Some discussion board posters seem to suggest that there is a relationship. 2) Are the multitude of "ship to" names and suite numbers an attempt by the buyer to track its orders (as some discussion board posters have suggested) or are those an attempt to muddy the waters by the creation of "straw-man" ship to's? Either might be plausible or there might be other explanations. 3) Are the USPS Postal Inspectors actively investigating this address and these activities? Call the PI's in if you think you've been scammed. They'll investigate and they can be very dogged. 4) Are local or state or other federal law enforcement agencies involved in active investigations? 4) Are there other situations at other addresses similar to this out there? Do others of the major college textbook wholesalers (such as MBS, Follett, Budgetext, Southeastern, Texas Book, Tichenors, etc) seem to be associated with this sort of activity? Does Nebraska/Specialty seem to be involved at other addresses? 5) How active is Amazon at investigating this matter or others like it? If there's one thing that we should have learned from our web commerce experiences it's that the cheaters and chiselers and scammers are always working hard to come up with new ways to turn our money into theirs. It remains to be seen if there is any hanky-panky going on here. But remember always to protect yourself and your assets.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll go ahead and take my chances with it. It's not an expensive book, I'm just a college student trying to get some money back from my books and I'd rather keep the book myself then have someone scam me out of it!
Some people have said they've had no problems with this buyer, but I will definitely take your suggestions for shipping.
I've never had a problem selling or buying books on amazon before, has anyone had any problems like this at half or ebay?

Hmm. That sucks, I just sold this same guy my calc book for $90. I'm not calling them back, thats bullshit. I emailed them and if they want to get in touch with me then they're going to have to email me back. I'm not giving them any refund, aspecially not when they refuse to send the book back. Thats just now how it works. What a scam. Here's the mail I got:
-------------- Begin message ---------------------
We recently placed order #xxxxxxxxxxxxx with you on Amazon. However, when the book arrived, we were disappointed to find that it was damaged (Torn Front Cover, Torn Back Cover, Missing Front Cover, Missing Back Cover).
We are an approved institutional buyer on Amazon and understand that damage during shipping does occur. As a result, negative feedback will NOT be left on your account. Please issue a full refund for the purchase price (plus shipping) for order #058-0184794-1946116 to avoid an A-to-z claim. Because of high volume and no Amazon support for return shipment cost reimbursement, we are unable to return the damaged item to you.
We want to continue to do business with you on Amazon. However, if you would like us to stop purchasing from you, please visit our seller opt out form:

We mailed 3 or 4 books to this address in Ohio before we realized it was a possible fraud, so while at the Post Office this morning I asked for advise on this matter. Here is what they told me: On the internet go to www.USPS.com, when that comes up go to Postal Inspector (the policeman for the Postal Service). You tell the Inspector your problem, and tell him that numerous other Amazon Sellers are having the same problems. It sounded like fraud to the person I spoke to at the PO. and she felt it should be reported by as many sellers as possible, as soon as possible.
I was told the Inspector has the capability to get the ISP (Internet Service Provider) number of the company suspected of fraud, and will, if necessary, send a letter of warning to them.

I have two orders from this address today; two different e-mail addresses. Both $30+ books. Should I risk it and send books? Any good experiences? Or do they always rip off the seller.
What do they do to your seller rating if you refund the order? Do they leave bad feedback?
Thanks for any advice.
